Roshangar Publishing Guide

For those who are interested submitting their work to be apart of the next issue of Roshangar, please abide by the publishing guide when submitting your work.

Welcome to the Roshangar Publishing Guide!

Submissions should be written or visual works related to Persian studies, including but not limited to: essays on Iranian culture, reviews of Persian literature and films, papers and creative works inspired by Persian studies’ coursework and assignments, and more. Below are the following guidelines for submissions. 

 

Paper Submission Guidelines

 

Word Count for Written Pieces

  • Provide a word count of 1500-2000 words for essays. This word limit includes your references and notes. 

 

References

  • Please ensure that all references adhere to the (MLA style)  guidelines when submitting your work to our journal. Refer to the Manual of Style:  for proper citation format and include a comprehensive list of references at the end of your manuscript.

 

In-text citations 

 

Notes

 

Spelling and Style 

  • All original content should adhere to U.S. spelling and punctuation, with quotations retaining their original formatting

  • In-text lists should have a serial comma

 

Numbers

  • Written out up to and including ninety-nine (however 14 million etc.); commas in thousands

  • Years should be written out in number form (ex. 2002)

 

Quotations

  • Quotations of over sixty words should be extracted and set as block quotations with the source in parentheses following the closing punctuation

  • Use double quotation marks for quoted material 

  • Any quotations within quotations within quotations take single quotation marks

  • Quoted material should be punctuated according to sense: if the initial word of the quotation started a sentence in the original but continues a sentence in the manuscript it should not take a capital, likewise, a lowercase letter may substitute for a capital according to the sense of the new piece. It is not necessary to enclose the changed letter in square brackets


 

Biography

  • Please include a 150-word biography telling us about yourself! This should include your name in the third person point of view, with your major, graduating year, career goals and interests, any other relevant information you would like to provide, and your main contact email address.

 

Headshot

  • Provide a headshot of yourself to exemplify a face to the name of your work! Please make sure the picture is clear and is taken of you (no selfies), this is to make sure the website format is maintained in the same style as all submissions. 

 

Abstract **Written Submissions Only

  • Include an abstract that provides what your piece is about (150-300 word count)

    • Written Pieces

      • Provide what your written piece is about. This includes your thesis and the sources you will be utilizing and briefly conveys how you incorporate the sources into your work. 

 

Written Component **Creative Pieces Only

  • Provide a written component that explains the message behind your creative piece alongside the creative component.
